A 38-year-old man set his wife on fire at their northeast Delhi home so he could continue living with his second wife, the police said Wednesday. The incident took place late Tuesday when Shailender, in a fit of rage, poured kerosene on his wife Manju and set her on fire. The police said Manju sustained 100 percent burns, and Shailender too received 15 percent injuries. They were admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where Manju's condition was stated to be grave. “In her statement, Manju told the police on Tuesday night she had a minor altercation with her husband over some issue. Her husband set her afire in a fit of rage,” a senior police official said. The official said the couple often fought with each other over Shailender's second marriage.
